A home buyers guide to Sunshine

Our Calahonda base on the Costa del Sol is blessed with a fantastic climate offering all year round benefits that make this part of the world an ideal location for a permanent residence, vacation home or investment property.   Malaga and the surrounding coastline are characterized by its Mediterranean influences and boasts one of Europe’s most enviable climates.

One of Malaga's most attractive features is its abundance of sunshine. The city enjoys over 300 sunny days annually, making it a haven for sun-seekers. This exceptional weather provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities, from lounging on the beach to exploring the various towns along the coast.

In summary this is what you can expect climate wise when you work with Martin Real Estate and buy your Spanish property.

  1. Warm summers filled with Glorious Sunshine: Here comes the Sun and the warmth, with average summer temperatures from June to September of 25C-35C(77f-95f) degrees.  Bring your bucket and spade and plan to spend lots of time by at the seaside, taking advantage of the cooling mediterranean sea breeze.  July and August tend to be the peak summer months temperature wise, but air conditioning is a common feature in all homes, apartments and public buildings.  Frequent dips in your pool, or lounging pool side with your favourite tipple, is a much-appreciated pass time during warm sunny days.
  2. Mild Winters: If the term winter is even the appropriate description, because the average temperatures range between 15°C (59°F) and 20°C (68°F), with nighttime temperatures rarely dipping below 8°C (46°F). In short, weather characteristics that most Northern Europeans would call a good summer, is that the South of Spain enjoys in its winter season.  Christmas lunch on your terrace while enjoying your turkey in 22-23 degrees C is very common. Yes, the days or shorter but you can expect a good 6 hours of sunshine in and around the shortest day of the year.
  3. Spring and Autumn: Spring and autumn in Malaga are particularly delightful, offering moderate temperatures and fewer tourists than the summer months. From March to May and September to November, daytime temperatures typically range from 20°C (68°F) to 25°C (77°F). These seasons are ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, golfing, and dining al fresco

The Costa del Sol in general, experiences relatively low rainfall, particularly in the summer months. The region receives about 500 mm (20 inches) of rain annually, with the majority falling between November and March. Even during these wetter months, rainfall is typically brief and followed by clear skies.  It is both a blessing and a cause for little concern.  Water supplier and reserves, however, are extremely well managed- and locals are expert and making the most of rainfall and conservation tactics.

The beauty of Mediterranean living is that along the coast the summers are less intense heat wise, and the winters are warmer.  The sea moderates the temperatures delivering a wonderful attractive climate all year round.  The costal influence is a real selling point for home buyers seeking a comfortable and stable year round

The favourable weather on the Costa del Sol offers numerous advantages for potential home buyers:

  1. Outdoor Lifestyle: The consistent sunshine and mild temperatures encourage an active outdoor lifestyle, whether it’s beach outings, mountain hikes, or cultural explorations. BBQ, but pool anyone.
  2. Healthy Living: The Mediterranean climate is often associated with health benefits, including lower stress levels and increased opportunities for physical activity. Any arthritic or related conditions benefit tremendously for the lovely balmy warmth.
  3. Property Value: Malaga’s appealing climate contributes to its popularity as a tourist destination and a desirable place to live, which can positively impact property values and rental potential.
  4. Energy Efficiency: With mild winters and warm summers, homeowners can often benefit from lower energy costs compared to regions with more extreme weather conditions.

Malaga's exceptional weather is one of its strongest selling points for prospective home buyers. The combination of abundant sunshine, mild winters, warm summers, and a temperate coastal climate makes it a perfect location for those seeking a pleasant and healthy living environment. Whether you're looking for a permanent home, a holiday retreat, or an investment property, Malaga’s climate and our superb customer service, throughout the buying process,

is sure to enhance your quality of life and make every day enjoyable.
